Team retrospective doesn't need fancy formats or activities. It needs to help the team improve. Here's how I run it as an engineering manager

The key to any successful startup is close collaboration between product and engineering. This sounds easy, but can be incredibly difficult. Both groups may have conflicting goals and different definitions of success that have to be reconciled.

"Feedback is a gift," or so we're told, and yet sometimes that "gift" is quite painful to receive. This is a theme in my work with leaders, who routinely find themselves the subject of sharp criticism in company surveys, 360 reports, Glassdoor reviews, and social media, among other places.

We’ve spent countless hours discussing topics around building and scaling companies over the years, but the single topic that we’ve probably spent the most on is hiring. In this post series we’ll discuss some of the most important topics in recruiting, in particular how to build strong teams of engineers, product managers, designers, data scientists, and similar tech-oriented, high-skill practitioners.
